- May 21, 2009 · A 30-30 is a proven swatter of whitetail-sized game out to 150 yards, and seems to have the right velocity for ideal terminal performance of (gasp!) 150 and 175 grain PowerPoint and CoreLokt cup and core bullets. Lots of Dead Right There results, at least for me.
- Bullets used in 30-30 ammo tend to be of the flat nosed, soft point variety. These projectiles are safe for tubular magazines and provide high diameter expansion in game without fragmentation. However, the 30-30 has come a long way since the 1890s with new polymer tipped spitzers from Hornady's Leverevolution series as well as copper bullets from Barnes and Federal.

As far as the description of the ball powder that you pulled from the LEVERevolution 30-30 cartridge goes, the 748 ball I use for my 30-30 hunting rounds has some small round grains and some larger flattened grains.
