Ticking noise when turning car off

A couple months ago my a/c started making a clicking noise every time the car was turned on. Its behind the dash / ac control unit. No matter what combination of buttons (temp/vent/inside/outside) I press it still does it. It will click for about 30 seconds or so then go away for the rest of the ride.

- Some noise can come from a worn camshaft. It's also a tapping noise. If the noise is a steady metallic rap, it may indicate a rod/rod bearing. A quick steady tap may indicate lifters or cam lobe, while a clatter may be loose/worn rocker arms. A low rumble or knocking noise could be caused by a bad rod bearing on the crankshaft.
- A reasonably loud ticking sound, seemingly from the dash, driver's side. About 1/2 second between ticks. Very noticeable when the car was at a signal or stop sign. Even my wife mentioned it, and she is usually oblivious to mechanical sounds.

- If a clanking or clicking noise is heard, particularly upon turning and accelerating, a common cause is a worn CV (Constant Velocity) joint. Look for obvious signs of a grease leak from a CV boot, the outer ones near the front wheels are most common. Note there does not have to be a grease leak for the CV joint to be worn and noisy. - but removing a plug wire will NOT isolate a ticking lifter. IT will however isolate a bad rod bearing or bad wrist pin on a piston. Lifters have pressure on them all the time. when removing the plug wire off a cyl you remove the pressure off it and the noise should change if it is a bearing or wrist pin.

If I turn off the truck then turn it back on it goes away, and sometimes you don't hear it all all. Before this started I had just had it in for an oil change at pep boys.

The ticking in mine comes from the speakers. Not sure if it's the way I hooked my amp and aftermarket sound up but it definately comes from the speakers. If I stop kill the car you can hear it and it goes away the second I open the door and aux power is cut. Is this what your referring to?
